I’ve been adventuring, climbing, hiking and mostly taking pictures for around 3 years now. I’ve tried tested and put loads of gear through pretty tough scenarios. This post will always be up to date with what I’m currently using for travel photography equipment.
Just a heads up, some things on here I might earn a tiny amount of money from. If you buy anything through one of my links I’ll buy you a beer or a coffee in the future!

I buy most things through amazon and some things like lenses I even buy second hand. Good glass can last for year but electronics die pretty quickly so as long as it’s not scratched, I’m OK with it.
Everything’s in a list to start off with to make it easier to browse. Lower down in the article I talk about each item individually and why I use it. Enjoy!

Camera Body
Sony A7iv
I’ve been using the sony A7iv for almost 2 years. It’s been amazing. It was my first foray into the world of full frame, and it has not disappointed. From mountains to underwater I’ve taken it everywhere. I even dropped it in the ocean in Iceland and it turned out completely fine. It’s got an extremely high pixel count, making it great for astro. Shoots in Log 4K at 60 frames, making it great for video. It’s lightweight and very portable.
Main Lens
Tamron 28-75mm F2.8
The Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 is my workhorse. You can find this attached to my camera 60% of the time. It wide enough for a landscape sshot yet has enough reach for a portrait or close up. An amazing all round with a fixed F2.8 aperture all the way through. If I had one lens, this would be it.
Wide / Astro Lens
Tamron 17-28mm F2.8
The Tamron 17-28mm F2.8 is my go to landscape and astro lens. It’s extremely fast and allows for great wide angle low light shooting. It’s very light and serves as a great hiking and climbing lens for its ability to capture unique aspect ratios of large areas. My very close 2nd place for go to lens for travel photography equipment.
Tele Lens
Tamron 70-180mm F2.8
The close up lens. The Tamron 70-180mm F2.8 allows to get uncomfortably close without being uncomfortably close. It is a bit heavy but still lighter than any comparable lens of the same focal length. It’s a great wildlife or Rufio (my dog) lens.
Drone
DJI mini 3 pro
Ahh drones, they’ve become common place in the travel photography equipment kit. They allow us to take perspectives that we only dreamed about a few years ago. Plus advances in technology have made them incredibly light and capable. I use the DJI mini 3 pro, it’s extremely light, has amazing quality and is the perfect size to throw in a pack.
Camera Bag
Atlas Athlete pack
I’ve carried 3 lenses, a drone, 2 laptops and enough cold weather gear to outlast an Icelandic winter trip all in carry on with this back. It has loops from my ice axes, pouches for water bottles. It expands to be an overnight hiking back or packs down small enough to be a day bag. The camera compartment has an adjustable size. In short, it’s the perfect adventure bag. It’s expensive but I don’t regret a thing!
Action Camera
Insta360 X2
360 degree views that can be reframed at any time in post. An aspect that only came on the scene a few years ago and now seems part of any adventurous instagram account. I love these thing, they’re easy to start on the go, easy to operate and slip into very small compartments.
